At the start of the summer holidays we stayed in a safari tent at Brook Meadow, Leicester, and had the opportunity to use the complimentary family passes that are available to all guests upon request for local attraction, Mini Meadows Farm, which is just a five minute drive away and has a free car park, making it incredibly easy to visit. Here’s what we thought of our visit.
On arrival, we could see the goats playing in their outdoor pen complete with climbing frames which instantly got the kids excited about going into the farm. We presented the pass and had no issues gaining entry but were asked if we wanted to buy food to feed the animals for an additional £3.50, which we agreed to. This gave us three coloured tubs of food for different animals including:
- goats,
- horse,
- ducks,
- pigs,
- llamas and
- sheep.
I would highly recommend that you add this little extra on to your visit as my kids absolutely loved getting so close to all of the animals and hand feeding them and it was definitely the highlight of our visit.
In addition to feeding the animals, you can also visit the petting zoo enclosures where you can stroke the rabbits and guinea pigs.
Little Meadows Farm isn’t just about the animals though, . there’s also a fantastic outdoor play area with something for children of all ages (plus some adults). One section is more like a traditional park with swings, slides and climbing equipment, while another features a wooden obstacle course complete with monkey bars and other fun challenges.
We also spotted a separate play area designed for younger children, although we didn’t use it on this visit but can confirm that it looked very popular.
If the weather isn’t great there are also indoor attractions that you can enjoy including a giant sandpit complete with buckets and spades and an indoor play area, both of which are included in the admission price.
Aside from the optional animal food, there are no hidden costs, making it excellent value for money, especially if you’re taking advantage of the complimentary tickets available when staying at Brook Meadow.
Overall, we would highly recommend Mini Meadows Farm if you’re in the area. There is so much to see and do that you could easily spend the whole day there without anyone getting bored.
Top tip: Take a picnic if you want to keep costs down, as there are plenty of picnic tables and outdoor seating areas. However, if you’d rather not bring your own food, there is also a café on site serving food and drinks.
