Your hotel room is often the biggest expense of your trip, so saving a few pounds a night on your room can make a big difference to your budget. Whether you’re looking to get the cheapest price you can get or a more luxurious room for your money, there are a number of hacks you can use. Here are my top hotel booking tips….Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!
Use A Price Comparison Site, Then Check Direct
Price comparison sites are great for saving you time and money. Site’s like Trivago, Expedia or LateRooms let you see a range of booking prices on various websites. Once you’ve narrowed down your choice of hotels, look on the hotel’s website and see if they offer a better deal. Many hotels now offer the best pricing when booking direct.
Sign Up To Deal Websites
Voucher website like Groupon and Wowcher are very popular. Hotels are realising this and are starting to offer fantastic deals for accommodation, dining and spa breaks. It’s worth signing up to these, or at least checking them out when you are planning your stay. Some deals offer up to 70% off. You don’t want to miss a bargain like that. They don’t just cover UK hotels either but feature hotels around the world.
Sign Up To Loyalty Programs
If you’re a regular traveller, then it’s worth signing up for loyalty programmes. Many hotel chains will allow you to collect points towards free stays or upgrades. Loyalty scheme members can also enjoy other benefits such as free WiFi or priority booking rates. Hotels such as Dorsett Hotel, City have a great scheme that gives you many booking perks from going direct with them.
Some of the hotel comparison booking websites run their own version of a loyalty scheme too. This means that you aren’t confined to staying with a particular hotel chain.
It’s well worth it for the occasional newsletter and marketing email.
Want An Upgrade? Check-In At The End Of The Day
Who doesn’t love a cheap (or free) upgrade on their hotel room? It’s always worth asking when you check-in as you never know your luck. If you want to improve your chances of an upgrade, check-in later in the day when the hotel will have a better idea of its occupancy for the night.
Book Far In Advance or Last Minute
The best deals are to be found at either end of the booking window spectrum. If it’s an annual vacation you’re booking, many hotels will have good pricing for booking in advance. If, however, you can book last minute, ideally within the cancellation period. Hotels want to fill last-minute cancellations so will drop their prices massively.
Let The Hotel Know If It’s A Special Occasion
If you’re travelling to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary, let the hotel know in advance. They might be able to upgrade you or layout some complimentary refreshments.
Inform The Hotel Of Any Problems
Now, we’re not suggesting you become one of ‘those’ people, who is always complaining and making a scene on social media. However, if there is a genuine problem during your stay, calmly let the hotel know, and more often than not, they will give you a reduction in your room rate or a discount on your next stay.
