Derby Cathedral

A visit to Derby wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Derby Cathedral which is well known for its impressive architecture and serene atmosphere. The Cathedral is open to visitors most days and you are welcome to join them for a service too if you wish. During the nicer months when it isn’t too windy you can also pay a small fee to have a guided tour to the top of the Cathedral where you can look out at the city and learn all about it’s history.

The Bridge Chapel

If you are visiting Derby as a group of 10 or more than you can book a free guided tour of the Bridge Chapel, one of only 6 Bridge Chapels left in the UK. It is situated on the banks of the River Dewent, only a five minute walk from the cathedral so makes for a lovely activity to do alongside the Cathedral.

Derby Museum and Art Gallery

Derby Museum offers free entry although donations are welcome. Here you can explore the diverse collections, including art, archaeology, and natural history. The museum also hosts free exhibitions and events on a regular basis with a number of interactive ones for the kids usually taking place during school holidays, always check the website for more information prior to your visit.

Pickford’s House Museum Garden

Although the museum itself may have an entrance fee, you can explore the garden at Pickford’s House and Gardens for free. It’s a tranquil space with historical significance.

Markeaton Park

On a nice day you can enjoy a leisurely stroll or picnic in Markeaton Park. It is perfect for the whole family as it has a vast green space to let off some steam as well as a lake, playgrounds, and gardens.

Derwent River Walk

The River Derwent runs through Derby and makes for a lovely scenic walk with it’s picturesque views and peaceful surroundings. You will find a number of cafes and pubs along the way too should you wish to stop for refreshments.

Darley Park

Another beautiful park in Derby, Darley Park offers green spaces, a river, and a boating lake. It’s an ideal spot for relaxation and outdoor activities.
