Have you ever wanted to just escape from the world and have a reset? We did, so when Shacks got in touch and asked us if we would like to visit one of their off-grid properties we jumped at the chance. Shacks have a number of off-grid sites in Cheshire, Staffordshire and North Wales sleeping between 2-4, all offering something a little different from wild saunas to outside baths but the thing they all have in common is that they are totally off-grid and set in the most picturesque places. We stayed in Sirius in Tarporley, Cheshire and here is everything we think you need to know before you book your very own stay.
Sirius in Tarporley
Sirius is a two bed, dog friendly, shack set on a working farm in Tarporley, rural Cheshire. It is completely off-grid and is available to book for short breaks from as little as one night, or long stays if you prefer. It sleeps up to 4 people with a double bed plus two bunks, although these are aimed at children more than adults, making it perfect for a family getaway.
The shack has an open plan living design with a log burning fire, kitchen – complete with gas hob and under counter fridge, as well as a table that can comfortably fit four, along with the sleeping areas. There is also a separate bathroom with a shower and sink, both with running water, and an eco composting toilet.

What we loved
From the moment we arrived we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, simply surrounded by the most beautiful views of rolling hills and open fields filled with nothing but cows. It was like we instantly felt a wave of calm come over us and we couldn’t wait to get inside and check out the shack. There is a designated car parking space for those staying in the shack and here you will find a wheelbarrow that can use to move your luggage from your car up a short path to the shack, very cute and super helpful.
Our first impressions of the shack was that it was bigger than we expected it to be. We were amazed by how much living space it actually had, not to mention a functionable kitchen and dinning area complete with everything you need from crockery and cutlery to games and books, so even if the weather is bad and somehow you get bored of looking at the view you can stay here all snug with the log burner going and read or play games away from the stresses of the world.
We also got the impression that the owners had thought of everything having both a log burner fire and a fan to cover all seasons and having raised beds to give a better view but also to create space to store your bags and suitcases.
Once we were settled in we simply sat on the bed and admired the views, it’s the perfect place to watch the sun set with a prosecco and it rise again with a coffee.

As the shack is on a working farm you are told that you may occasionally see the farmer in the field and although we didn’t see anyone on the first night we spent most of the following morning watching several farmers on their tractors across the fields.
For us a massive bonus was that the Sirius was also dog friendly as it meant we could take Luna with us and she loved it just as much as we did. They even provided a water bowl and some treats and at the end of the bed is a padded seat area that looks perfect for your four legged friends to be able to relax and watch the birds.

If you’re after rest, peace, simplicity, and a chance to slow down in beautiful surrounds, Sirius in Tarporley is excellent. It is away from the hustle and bustle without being completely cut off, a 5 minute drive and you are at shops, 10 minutes and you have a choice of pubs, restaurants and lots more shops, but here in the shack it feels like the rest of the world and all your stresses have simply melted away.
The shack itself is spacious, functional and also cozy with very comfy beds and the most beautiful views. There really isn’t anything not to love about it and we are already planning on booking a return trip next year.
