Afternoon Tea At Ma Boyle’s In Liverpool

Ma Boyle’s in Liverpool is a hidden gem that once discovered needs to be shared with friends and family and visited time and time again. If you know Liverpool you will find Ma Boyle’s on Tower Gardens just off The Strand, if you don’t then be sure to follow the trusted google maps and don’t be put off when you feel like you are working away from town and down a small side street.

Ma Boyle’s is an alehouse and eatery that offers a range of delights including their bottomless bubbles afternoon tea. Now anyone that knows me knows I love a good afternoon tea, especially the bottomless types so I couldn’t wait to try it.

Bottomless bubbles afternoon tea at Ma Boyle’s in Liverpool Review

The Ma Boyle’s afternoon tea consisted of chicken and bacon and cheese and pickle sandwiches, a lemon cake and brownies with scones that come with jam and clotted cream.

The first thing I noticed was that the presentation was not in line with a traditional afternoon tea in that the food came on platters as opposed to a cake stand and although this makes no odds to the taste it actually did annoy me a little bit, it felt like a lack of thought had gone in to it. That being said the food was delicious, especially the sandwiches.

The bottomless bubbles were also surprising. I was expecting “just” prosecco but it actually meant prosecco based cocktails including

Prosecco
A sparkling glass of Frizzenti prosecco
Passion Fruit Bellini
Passionfruit puree topped with prosecco
Aperol Spritz
Aperol & prosecco topped with soda
Unicorn Fizz Bellini
Secret Unicorn magic topped with prosecco
Fruity Gin Spritz
Fruit gin with prosecco & lemonade
Mimosa
Orange Juice topped with prosecco
Kir Royale
Crème de Cassis topped with prosecco

and you didn’t have to pick just one and stick to it you could order a different one each time as many times as you liked. The only rule was you had to finish one before ordering another and you could only order one at once which is perfectly fair.

Obviously I felt obliged to taste every cocktail and I can confirm they were all amazing and very strong! My favourite was the Unicorn Fizz Bellini.

Overall the place was delightful, a real hidden gem, the afternoon tea tasted delicious and the cocktails were plentiful. Having booked this using a red letter day voucher for £60 making it £30 per person for the food and 90 minutes of cocktails I would say it is fantastic value for money and well worth booking if you are heading to Liverpool any time soon.
