As a total book worm I love nothing better than sitting down with a good book and getting lost in a world of make believe. For me reading is more than just the words on the page, it’s the pictures those words create in my mind and the characters that I can so clearly see. I often find my self so invested in the story, needing to find out what happens next and hoping for a certain outcome for particular characters or trying to anticipate the twists and turns the story line will take before it concludes.
I love reading so much that in January this year I joined a book club and as a result have read books I wouldn’t normally choose, some I loved, some I didn’t, but discussing them with others adds another dimension to the book that I now really enjoy. It fascinates me how one book can have one meaning to one person yet be interpreted in a different way by a different reader, so if you too are a book lover I would highly recommend you join or even start your own book club and who knows Appetite by Anita Cassidy could be your first book.
This month I have teamed up with literally PR to offer two readers the chance to win a copy of Appetite by Anita Cassidy, all you have to do to be in with a chance is to enter using the form below.
Appetite by Anita Cassidy is a pacey, thought provoking novel making a potent statement against Big Food, Government and the school system, as well as our “sofa-box-set-take-away” culture. Appetite is first and foremost about love: how people manage their relationships with food, sex and other people. It’s about how to take that first step towards change by becoming more self aware. Appetite challenges the prevailing narrative that fat people are lazy or greedy and questions society’s role in the obesity crisis. The realities of sexual frustration and lack of communication in marriages are explored. Appetite holds a mirror up to our fascination with food, particularly sugar, and how most of us use food (or drink, or TV, or the internet, or other people…) to distract ourselves from having to face up to the sadness/ emptiness / unspoken desires we have inside. It addresses the default setting of wanting to make others feel good right now – when they are hurting – even if it means hurting them even more in the long run. Anita Cassidy’s exciting debut novel reveals people at the mercy of their appetites, showing that some hungers can never be satisfied…
