What to buy Dad this Father’s Day

Well isn’t this just  the most bizarre Father’s day we could be having in the UK, a lockdown celebration like no other and one that brings with it lots of questions such as what to buy? And how to celebrate? This year a voucher for a beer tasting evening or tickets to a football match simply wont do, nor can you celebrate with a big family meal at your dads favourite restaurant, unless of course they offer a social distanced take away service, so here are a few Father’s day gift ideas that can be delivered to the door and still enjoyed during lockdown.

Something tasty

Let’s face it, most people are enjoying their favourite tipple at home more than ever before and if, like me, your favourite spirit happens to be gin then this gives you the perfect opportunity to try out lots of different brands and flavours such as this amazing Mermaid Gin. The Mermaid Gin is Hand-crafted on the Isle of Wight using ten ethically sourced botanicals. It delivers a smooth yet complex blend of fresh organic lemon zest and peppery grains of paradise, with a hint of sea air from locally foraged, fragrant rock samphire, making it both refreshing and invigorating. Not only is this gin simply delicious but it also comes in a beautiful blue bottle and 100% plastic free packaging.

Something quirky

If you think your dad is in need of a little giggle during these weird times then how about something a little bit different this Father’s day. Teasme London have a great collection of tea cups, saucers and milk jugs that are modelled on the female form, including the full bone china set pictured below. The first collection was designed by Sanja Sakic and was launched at Great Western Studios, Notting Hill, in October 2015 to raise money for the Breast Cancer Now charity. This will certainly make the lockdown Father’s day of 2020 one to remember in more ways than one.

Something practical

Even in lockdown we need to wear clothes (apparently), although  it is more lounge wear than anything else these days. Therefore new clothes will make a perfect and practical gift,  so why not treat dad to a new set of tracksuit bottoms or a smart new Tee shirt. Mainline Menswear have a huge selection of well known brands from Hugo Boss to Armani and offer everything from underwear to formal attire as well as lots of sports clothes and lounge wear, so whether your dad is turning into a couch potato or a home gym addict this lockdown you will be sure to find him the perfect item.

Talking of clothes there is every possibility that your dad may have gone up or down a dress side during lock down depending on whether he has been hitting the home gym or the gin! So a practical and stylish new belt from Trendhim would be perfect. They have a variety of colours and designs available including this Bosswick Brown textured one with a nickel buckle made from 100% Italian leather.

Another practical gift that will be very useful for most men this Father’s day is a new razor and Lane 44 have a lovey looking plastic free one available in chrome. It comes with  one razor and 5 blades and looks stylish and expensive, despite it’s very affordable price tag. However this is way better than your average razor as not only do you reduce the plastic waste when using this in comparison to a disposable razor but by buying from Lane 44 you will also be supporting Men’s mental health as they donate 5% of every sale to charity. This Lane 44 Razor is available from Loolyn, the sustainable marketplace.

Something sweet

Does you dad have a sweet tooth? If so you have got to check out these sweet  treats by Mummy Meagz. We have recently tried the Sea Salt and Honeycomb Rocky Road bars and they are absolutely delicious and I will definitely be ordering some more soon. There are three more flavours to choose: orange, original and minty if Sea salt and honey comb isn’t your dad’s thing. Oh and the most important part for some people will be that these amazingly indulgent bars of deliciousness are completely gluten free and vegan friendly.

However if dad prefers his chocolate a little less sweet and a little more nutty then the Guylian Belgian chocolates with a hazelnut praline filling will be the perfect gift for him. Guylian offer a few different options bur for me it is the original ones that are the best.

Something to do

Lockdown can be lonely and boring, not so much if you suddenly find yourself at home with multiple children but for those without young children at home there can be plenty of time to fill. If this is the case for your dad then a subscription to the readly app could be just the thing they need to help them survive. For a one off monthly price the app gives you unlimited access to  over 5,000 magazines covering a whole host of genres. You can treat dad to a 1, 3 or 6 month subscription from as little as £7.99  enabling him to peruse all his favourite mags as well as discover new titles to get him through lockdown.

Something to help

If your dad is focused on self improvement, either physically or cognitively, then he might be interested in these supplements from Hunter. They have three to choose from: Test to increase testosterone levels, Burn to help with fat reduction and Focus to help with concentration, focus and creativity. Hunter supplements are specifically designed to help men strive for success and are made from natural ingredients backed by clinical studies.

Don’t forget the card

Being in lockdown is no excuse to forget to get Dad a card this Father’s Day and Cool Source Cards have some fab ones to choose from that are perfect for any Dad that loves a good (bad) dad joke. They have lots of witty one liners, quirky quotes and colourful illustrations by Matthew O’Connor to choose from. I think my favourite is the “YOU’RE SHRIMPLY THE BEST” one!
