The Style 4 Ever DIY Keychain Factory is a lovely craft kit that encourages creativity and gives children something they can actually use afterwards or gift to others. My 6-year-old daughter and her friend had a fantastic time making their own keychains and were so excited to see the finished results, here’s what we thought of the set as a whole.
What’s Included
The Style 4 Ever DIY Keychain Factory comes with everything needed to create a variety of personalised keychains, including:
- A keychain-making station
- Lots of colourful charms and decorative accessories
- Beads and embellishments
- Key rings and chains
- Accessories in a wide range of colours, shapes and themes
One thing I really liked was the variety of designs and colours. While there are plenty of bright colours and cute accessories, not everything is overly girly or pink. There are fun options like a cactus charm, different quotes and adorable little frogs for the aqua charms too, making it appealing to a wider range of children.
Our review
The recommended age on the box is that it is suitable for children aged 6 and over, my daughter (aged 6) and her friend definitely loved it and I think this the right age area however they also definitely needed a lot of adult help to get started. Setting up the factory itself was a bit tricky as every time you put one side on the the other popped off so it required more patience that your average 6 year old has.
The making of the actual keychains was also something they couldn’t manage independently despite it being relatively straight forward it was a bit fiddley, again required patience and concentration to create the various knots and good fine motor skills and hand eye coordination to thread all the beads on.
However, they loved choosing their coloured threads, decorations and charms and putting together their own designs, but I’d definitely recommend this as a craft activity to do together with your child as opposed to something you leave them to do alone or with a friend.
Older children, maybe 8+, with better fine motor skills would likely be able to use it much more independently but for younger ones it’s a fun family activity.
Lots of Creative Possibilities
There are plenty of accessories included, so children can make several different keychains without them all looking the same. The mix of colours, shapes and themes encourages creativity, and I liked watching the girls come up with completely different designs and experimenting with colours and patterns before asking me to build them, it’s great for imagination and creativity.
Overall thoughts
Overall, the Style 4 Ever DIY Keychain Factory was a big hit with my daughter and her friend. They had lots of fun creating personalised keychains and were proud to show off their finished creations, they even asked to make more for their friends showing just how much they enjoyed it.
Just bear in mind that younger children will need some adult assistance with the setup and assembly, so it’s best thought of as a shared craft activity or a kit better suited to older children who can work more independently.
The wide selection of colourful, varied accessories is a real highlight and means there’s something to suit lots of different tastes and I think you get a lot for you money too making a good value activity set.
Based on our experience I would recommend this and will probably buy another set for my daughter for Christmas as she will have no doubt used this one up by then but be more than happy to make more.
