I absolutely love an afternoon tea. Over the years I have tried a few, ones that come with bottomless prosecco, Italian ones and even a Christmas themed one. So what better way to celebrate the end of Nation Afternoon Tea week then with an afternoon tea for two and this time we opted for one that gets delivered to your home by Piglets Pantry, courtesy of a Buyagift Voucher. I wasn’t too sure what to expect but for anyone thinking of ordering one here is my Piglets Pantry Review.
How much does a Piglets Pantry afternoon tea cost?
If, like us, you opt for a red letter or Buyagift voucher then you can get your Piglets Pantry afternoon tea for 2 for £35 which includes the cost of delivery. You also have the option to upgrade it to an afternoon tea for 4 people for an additional £25 which then makes it only £15 a head. Or you can order direct from Piglets Pantry for £30 but you then pay £5.99 postage making it slightly more expensive.
What do you get in the afternoon tea?
It comes boxed up with cooking instructions and contains
-Two cheese and chive quiches
– Two Scotch eggs
– Two mini sausage rolls
– Two mini sausage rolls with cheese and pickle
– Two plain scones with clotted cream and strawberry conserve
– A selection of four cakes (we had two carrot cakes, a lemon drizzle and a blueberry).
We enjoyed ours alongside a bottle of prosecco which I highly recommend. You can obviously buy your favourite when out shopping or you can add one on to your order via Piglets Pantry if you want too.
Our Piglets Pantry Review
Firstly, I loved the concept of afternoon tea at home. I didn’t think I would but I really did. Everything was well packaged and it came with clear cooking instructions which was pretty much just to pop everything in the oven for 10 minutes to make sure it was piping hot.
We didn’t have a cake stand at home so I used a selection of out chopping board to present it so it would feel like it does when enjoy afternoon tea out and about instead of it just feeling like cake at home and I definitely think the presentation helped make it feel special.
We started with the hot food and it was fantastic. Without doubt the best scotch egg I have ever tasted and the sausage rolls were delicious too. Quiche isn’t my thing but my husband enjoyed his.
We then moved on to the cakes. Four cakes and 2 scones with jam and cream is a lot for two people and these cakes are not small. You definitely get your moneys worth. We tried half a carrot cake and half a blueberry cake each and shared a scone with cream and jam before enlisting the help of the kids to help us finish off (don’t worry we had already fed them).
We all agreed that the cakes were amazing but the clear favourite was the carrot cake. The scones are plain scones, much to my sons delight as he hates raisins, and again these were lovely and tasted really fresh and the individual posts of jam and cream were the perfect amount. In fact we had a little bit of each left over.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the Piglets Pantry afternoon tea and would definitely consider ordering it again if we wanted to celebrate something at home.
Any draw backs to the Piglets Pantry Review?
Our box arrived a bit battered and I was really worried about opening it up but luckily there was minimal damage. Two cakes had the icing a bit squashed but I managed to smooth most of it back out before I served it. However, this is the main draw back with having it delivered to your house instead of going out for afternoon tea.
The second concern is that you ideally need to be in for delivery. We were given a morning slot which covered a 5 hour period, 7am till 12pm. Presumably if you aren’t in they would leave in on your door step which isn’t ideal with it being food, especially if its hot so my advice would be to think about the delivery address and if you will be at work maybe get it delivered to there or to a neighbour if you know they will be in.
Other than taking those two things into account a home delivered Piglets Pantry afternoon tea is a cracking idea and a brilliant way to have a nice treat or celebration without leaving the home. Perfect for those that are housebound, which with Covid the way it is at the moment could be any one at any time for at least 10 days!
Overall thoughts
Overall our Piglets Pantry review is a very positive one. Our experience was lovely, the food was delicious and it was good value for money. I would highly recommend, not only Piglets Pantry, but also the actual BuyAGift vouchers as well as I think they would make a really nice present for a couple, maybe as an engagement or wedding gift.
