Subtle Signs That You’re Still Not Ready To Have Kids Yet

If you and your partner have been dating for a while, it’s fairly common to assume that you might want to start a family together at some point in the future. After all, starting a family means that you can bring new life into the world and you can leave behind your legacy in some way. Having a child might seem extremely daunting to some, but for others, it’s what they look forward to the most after they marry.

But having a child isn’t for everyone. In fact, many parents won’t even consider having a child until they’re in their mid or late 30s. There are a number of reasons for this, such as being financially unprepared or having a home that is too small. But for others, it can be fairly hard to pinpoint the reasons why the idea of having a child puts them off. So to help you out, here are a couple of the most subtle signs that show you just aren’t ready to have a child.

You don’t have a lot of savings

Whether you’ve put most of your money into assets or if you’re young and only just starting to save, keep in mind that having a child is a huge financial responsibility. If you don’t have enough money to start a family then you should avoid it simply because raising a child can cost hundreds of dollars each week. In addition, you’ll have to spend a large amount of money on a bigger home, you have to consider their tuition fees for college later on, and you also have to continue paying for things like rent and utilities.

In short, becoming a parent is expensive and you don’t want to put yourself in a situation where you’re unable to provide your child with a healthy and supported lifestyle. If you’re not financially prepared, then wait a bit longer and build up your savings.

You still have plenty of birth control

Whether it’s the morning after pill or other forms of birth control, if you still have a large amount of it at home then you’re probably not ready to have a child yet. Birth control helps ensure that we can be intimate with our partner without risk. If you still buy birth control on a regular basis and have no plans to stop, then there’s a good chance that you’re just not mentally prepared for the idea of having a child.

However, if you and your partner have talked about the idea of having a child before, then you might be less likely to order another batch just because you’re prepared to try for a baby.

You hate the idea of being needed

Your child is going to be completely dependent on you once you give birth. They won’t be able to do anything without you and your partner, meaning that you need to dedicate a lot of your time to them. They’re going to be needy and they’re going to want you to help them with every little thing. If you can’t stand the thought of this and prefer doing what you want whenever you want, then you might want to reconsider the idea of having a child.
