The Wirral Peninsula, located in the northwest of England, is known for its beautiful coastline and numerous beaches that run alongside the Dee Estuary and the Irish Sea. All of the beaches have something different to offer and are all worth a visit, here are our top five beaches on the Wirral.
West Kirby Beach
This sandy beach is popular with families as it is perfect for picnics, sandcastle building and letting of steam. It also offers stunning views of Hilbre Island and for those feeling more adventurous you can walk across the beach and up on to the Island itself, just remember to check the tide times so you don’t get stranded. West Kirby Beach is situated next to the marina which also makes it popular for water sports like sailing. There is no designated parking at West Kirby Beach however you can park for free on the neighbouring streets.
Hoylake Beach
Adjacent to West Kirby, Hoylake Beach is another sandy stretch with views of the Dee Estuary. It is known for its long promenade and is a nice place for a leisurely stroll. Other than the RNLI station and the occasional ice cream van Hoylake Beach is not commercialised making it quieter than West Kirby beach and more popular with locals than tourists.
Meols Beach
Meols Beach is quieter still. It is a sandy expanse popular for dog walking and birdwatching. It’s a peaceful spot away from the busier areas.
Leasowe Bay:
Lesowe Bay is becoming increasingly popular, especially with sea swimmers, water sports and sunset yoga sessions. It has a lovely promenade that you can follow all the way to New Brighton in one direction or to Meols and Hoylake in the other. Unlike the other beaches there is a designated car park at Lesowe Bay.
New Brighton Beach
Facing the Irish Sea, New Brighton Beach has a wide promenade and a traditional pier. It’s a family-friendly destination with attractions like the New Brighton Tower and the Fort Perch Rock, arcades, a cinema and bowling alley. It is the most commercialised of the Wirral Beaches and is perfect for a fun filled family day out. There is plenty of free parking in New Brighton both along the front and in the designated car park.
