I have written a lot about being more mindful with the things we buy recently, from reusable nappies to cruelty free beauty products, we are making changes and trying new things where we can. So, when I was introduced to a new sustainable fashion brand that caters for women and children I couldn’t wait to give them a try. Below you can find out everything you need to know about the sustainable fashion brand This is Unfolded and read our review having tried the clothes for ourselves.

What is This is Unfolded?

This is Unfolded is a revolutionary way to shop that has been designed to help reduce the amount of clothing waste produced each year that is contributing to the pollution on our planet. With a team of designers, This is Unfolded creates up to 20 items of clothing every couple of months for women and children, instead of the 1000’s that the big stores create and then ultimately waste. These items are a mix of styles and shapes and are perfect for helping you create a capsule wardrobe of fun items you will want to wear again and again.

To further ensure that waste is kept to an absolute minimum the clothes are only made after orders are placed to ensure that supply and demand match each other. This method of creation means that This is unfolded is not only just a sustainable brand but they are financially savvy as the process also saves money. Savings they then pass on to their workers ensuring they are being paid higher wages. Further savings are also passed on to their customers by ensuring their prices are affordable, they are currently 20% lower than traditional brands (on average).

Sustainable and affordable, what’s not to love?

This is Unfolded also use some of their profits to fund education for children near their factories helping them learn to read and write to better their future prospects. They really do go above and beyond as a brand, making you want to support them so they can support others, all whilst being bang on trend.

I was asked to pick an item from the current This is Unfolded range to try for myself. I thought with only a limited number of pieces to choose from I might struggle to find something that I liked but in actual fact I struggled more picking only one item as they have a really great selection that includes dresses, skirts, trousers, tops and even pyjamas.

I eventually picked the Alison Ditsy Print Midi dress that is currently priced at £49 in the sale, reduced from £59. It is available in sizes 6 to 24 and has been designed to be breastfeeding friendly with the buttons down the front, which I feel is a great size range making them a very inclusive brand.

The Ditsy print midi dress is made from sustainable fabric and is eco friendly, it has cute tie side sleeves and pockets, the best addition to any dress or skirt in my opinion.

From placing my order to getting it delivered was two days, I couldn’t believe how quick the service was. Although do be aware it can be longer as they may need to make your item for you. The dress is just as lovely in person as it looks on the website, it is true to size and very comfy and I love how it can be dressed up or dressed down depending on your plans.

Overall I was really impressed with my dress and will be checking out their next collection.

This is Unfolded also offer sustainable and eco friendly clothes for children. They currently have 10 products to choose from with the majority being gender neutral and available in ages 3 through to 10. Again we were asked to pick an item to review, this time for Layla who is 3. We opted for the Lilah pinafore dress in size 3-4. This dress is really versatile and would make a great staple for any little girls wardrobe as it can be paired with t shirts or long sleeve tops, socks or tights, to create a few different looks.

It has four buttons on the front meaning this can grow with your child to ensure it lasts that little bit longer and as they are actual buttons and not poppers it also means it stays on instead of repeatedly coming loose when your child is playing, climbing, jumping and basically having fun. There are also two pockets on the side which just adds a bit more detail and looks great.

Overall I love the ethos of This is Unfolded. Despite their being a limited choice I think every piece is beautiful and very versatile making them great additions to yours or your child’s wardrobes and the quality is fantastic. If you are looking for some new clothes, whether sustainability is the key factor for you or not, I would highly recommend you have a look at This is unfolded.
