Jack And The Beanstalk At St Helens Theatre Royal | Review

If you are looking for some family fun this half term then let me recommend Jack and the Beanstalk at St Helens Theatre Royal. This laugh a minute pantomime was originally created during the first lockdown and then live streamed to audiences in the comfort of their own homes but due to the incredible feedback, Regal Entertainments LTD decided that it was only fair to perform it once again on stage for a live audience right here in St. Helens and we are so glad they did.

St Helens versions of Jack and the Beanstalk follows the original story of a young boy who sells his cow for magic beans. The beans grow in to a beanstalk that leads to a giant living in the clouds but what happens at the end may differ to the version you remember as St. Helens have done what they do best, taken a classic and put their own spin on the story, as well and introducing a few new character along the way.

Jack Trott is played by Timothy Lucas who we last saw at St Helens as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast. It’s lovely to see him take on the main character this time and he really does make for a very believable, love stricken, courageous Jack.  Timothy is accompanied at centre stage by the very beautiful Olivia Sloyan who plays the female lead, Princess Jill, a new character and one that will capture the hearts of the audience from the start.

Joining Tim and Olivia on stage is Reece Sibbald, another St Helens regular. Reece not only appears on stage playing Simple Simon, Jacks brother, but he also wrote the script for Jack and the Beanstalk. Reece was an absolute delight to watch and brought so much laughter to the stage, although not all of it clean!

And of course no panto is complete without a dame and Jack and the Beanstalk has Dame Dolly Trot, Jack and Simple Simon’s mum, who is played by Mark Two.  This is Marks debut at St Helens Theatre Royal and wow does he make an entrance. From his incredible on stage presence to his fabulous array of costumes that are designed and created by him and his wife. Dame Dolly Trot is an explosion of fun and energy from start to finish. I do hope we get to see Mark at St Helens again.
