What is CBD?

Have you ever asked “What is CBD?”

Three little letters.

CBD

The once overlooked compound seems to be popping up everywhere these days. All the cool kids are using it. And the uncool ones, too! Also, it comes in so many different forms. CBD oil. CBD dabs. CBD patches. CBD edibles. What are all these things? What CBD products are right for me? What the heck is CBD anyway?

I’m so glad you asked.

Cannabidiol is really hard to spell.

Which is probably why everyone just calls it CBD. You might have picked up from its full name, though, that it has something to do with cannabis. Like THC (another acronym for a hard-to-spell word, which I’m not even going to attempt to type out right now), CBD is a chemical compound found in cannabis plants (most notably hemp, which is not the same as marijuana). But unlike THC, CBD doesn’t get you high. Also unlike THC (and marijuana), CBD is legal on the federal level. So feel free to order yourself some without deleting your browser history.

If it can’t get you high, what’s the point?

Okay, calm down there, Tommy Chong. Just because CBD doesn’t have the psychoactive properties of THC doesn’t mean it lacks other benefits. In fact, for a lot of people who are normally uncomfortable with cannabis-related things or who simply don’t like the feeling of being high, the lack of psychoactive effects is itself a benefit. What really makes CBD special though, is what else CBD can do.

And what else can it do? Well, studies have shown that it can slow the development of tumors, thus helping to fight cancer. It can also be used to treat anxiety, arthritis, nausea and depression and other kinds of joint pain, muscle pain, certain types of seizures, and more. And while it’s not a cure for any of these things, its ability to remedy their symptoms allows patients to drastically improve the quality of their lives as part of a healthier lifestyle.

CBD delivery methods for dummies

So now you know what CBD is and what it can do. But what’s the deal with all this other stuff. What exactly is a “dab” and why do I need a vaporizer? How many drops of CBD oil am I supposed to take? And, with all these products, are they safe? Well, firstly, I would recommend that you research the CBD products you are purchasing and read all the guidelines on the companies website, all reputable CBD retailers, like Blessed CBD, will make it clear what you are purchasing and how to use it.

But as an overviews here’s the deal…

  •   CBD oil is the most common delivery method. It comes in a little glass vial containing a liquid mixture that has a certain concentration level of pure CBD. How high that concentration is determines how much CBD you should take, but generally only a few drops are needed. CBD oil is used mainly by using an eyedropper to administer it orally. It can also be mixed with food or drinks.
  •   A CBD tincture is similar to an oil but is mixed with other ingredients to improve taste and increase absorption rate.
  •   CBD dabs are solid chunks of almost totally pure CBD. As such, they’re a lot more potent than CBD oil, making them perfect for people who need a stronger dose. It’s also good for people who need faster absorption, as the way dabs are used is the one that gets it into the bloodstream fastest. Using heat, CBD dabs are vaporized and inhaled.
  •   CBD edibles are exactly what they sound like. They’re food items that use CBD oil as an ingredient. These can be anything from gummies and brownies to a full-blown gourmet meal. They’re easy to make, for all you Cordon Bleu graduates reading this.
  •   CBD pills are pills. With CBD in them. You know how to use pills.
  •   CBD topical creams and ointments are especially useful for people suffering skin conditions, muscle pain, arthritis, and similar issues. Simply rub it into the affected area and relax.

These are the most popular forms of CBD currently available, and you can order yours if you click here,  but new ones are constantly being created, so don’t be afraid to try weirder things like CBD bath bombs, CBD coffee blends, and even CBD lube.
