This week it is Afternoon Tea Week and to celebrate Buyagift sent me and my mum for afternoon tea in Chester. To be more specific they sent us to the Townhouse Chester to try out their Afternoon tea for two with bottomless prosecco. I know, I know, it’s a hard job but someone has to do it.

The bottomless afternoon tea Buyagift voucher costs £59.90 which entitles you and a friend to afternoon tea and an hour and half of bottomless prosecco, making it great value for money. The voucher can be bought online and emailed over to you or you can opt for a physical package to be sent in the post, which I think is a better idea if you are purchasing one as a gift. If, for whatever reason, you or the person you gifted the voucher to, doesn’t wish to book a bottomless afternoon tea in Chester (or you chosen location) it can be changed for any other voucher of the same value on their website. So no gift should go to waste should you happen to find the only person in the world who doesn’t like sandwiches, cakes, scones and prosecco!
The Townhouse Chester
The Townhouse Chester is a 1966 boutique hotel situated on Lower Bridge Street, just a short walk from the River Dee and the historic city centre. You can choose to stay over night in one of their beautiful rooms or even book out their apartment or, like us, just to use their dinning facilities and enjoy everything from brunch to a Sunday Roast.
Our review of the bottomless afternoon tea in Chester
When we arrived we were shown straight to our table and made to feel very welcome, we were not asked if we were hotel or day guests so no differentiation is made in the way you are treated. The waiter asked us which afternoon tea we had booked and as soon as I mentioned we had the Buyagift voucher for the bottomless afternoon tea for two he laughed, fetched us a bottle of prosecco, and told us that he was sure that would be the first of many. Now, having never been for a bottomless anything before I was a bit dubious about how bottomless it would be and thought it would be served glass by glass, slowly, and with us having to keep asking for it which I knew would make me feel embarrassed and result in us having maybe only 2 or 3 glasses. So when we were left a bottle and told there would be more to come I was pretty impressed.
In case you’re wondering we enjoyed 2.5 bottles between us and I have no doubt that if we had finished the 3rd it would have been replaced without question!
Bottomless definitely means bottomless at the Townhouse Chester!
As we were enjoying our first glass of bubbles the afternoon tea itself was brought out. It looked amazing, full and fresh.
We started at the bottom and worked our way up but you can of course dive straight in for the cakes if you wish.
The sandwiches were an assortment of egg, ham, salmon and coronation chicken served on a mix of white and brown bread as well as a wrap. Then we enjoyed a scone each with clotted cream and jam and then after several more glasses of prosecco we started on the cakes. There was a good selection including a Victoria sponge, a lemon moose and a macaron. You certainly get a lot for your money, so much so we ended up taking a couple of the cakes home with us which pleased my boys no end.
If you are a fan on an Afternoon tea then I would highly recommend you grab yourself one of the Buyagift vouchers and if you are lucky enough to live, or be travelling near, Chester then definitely go for the one at the Townhouse as this is by far one of the best afternoon teas in Chester.
