Rubik’s Cube tipped to be the top stocking filler this Christmas

A new survey conducted on 2,000 individuals has revealed that a third of all parents would choose the Rubik’s Cube as a stocking filler for kids this Christmas along side chocolate and stationery and I have to agree that I think the Rubik’s cube would make a pretty decent stocking filler for both kids and adults alike.

The Rubik’s cube is one of those items that brings back memories of nostalgia (and maybe mild annoyance) for most grown ups who grew up with the original cube and spent endless hours trying to have all the sides equal, a task I never managed to complete I might add,  as well as being a thing of retro interest for children of today, which really makes me feel old!

2019 however has seen the reinvention of the Rubik’s with the introduction of a few new models and games based on the original that are ideal for those stockings this Christmas.

These include:

The Rubik’s Edge (RRP £9.99)

The cube is a single layer puzzle with nine cubes in the square. The aim is to turn, twist and rotate it to find the 192 possible permutations. However it’s harder than it sounds as you can only move the corner pieces.

The Rubik’s Cage RRP (£19.99)

This is a is a fast-paced, fun game of strategy aimed at those aged 8 and over and can be played with 2-4 players. The aim is to get three cubes in a row but watch-out as players can twist, turn and flip the cage to re-shuffle and deter their opponent. The player with the most rows wins.

The Rubik’s Orbit (RRP £14.99)

Now this new twist on the Rubik’s is the one that looks least like the original as it is circular with thin strips of colour instead of the classic square with smaller squares. Again this is aimed at those aged 8 and over and the idea is to solve all six sides of the 360 ring to have a matching colour all the way around. In my opinion this is a great gift for anyone who can normally complete the original Rubik’s to see if the shape throws them off balance at all.

Rubik’s Match (RRP £4.99)

Rubik’s match is a card game based on the original cube. It is ideal for those aged 7 and over and can be played alone or with up to 3 friends. It s perfect for travelling or even for passing the time between courses at the dinner table on Christmas day itself.  The aim of the game is to build the pattern on the Challenge Cards using their own Cubie Cards faster than their opponents.  The first person to complete the pattern is the winner!

Rubik’s 3×3 (£12.99)

Then of course we still have the original and  best-selling puzzle in history. Some people can solve it in under 5 seconds, I’m definitely not one of them but are you?

With all these Rubik’s cubes and games to pick from this Christmas it is easy to see why the Rubik’s products are tipped to be the top stocking filler of 2019. The question is which one(s) will you be picking.
