How To Have A Mental Refresh

No matter how great your day-to-day life is, everyone has struggles. Every single day will not be perfectly perfect – and that’s okay! Say “no” to negativity

First and foremost, say “no” to negativity, whenever possible. Now, this is hard to do. People love gossip, but honestly, it just drains you. What good does it bring? Hint: nothing! If you have friends or family members that love gossip and negativity, politely set boundaries. All you have to do is remove yourself from the situation, or just respond in positive ways. You can only control what you do and say, and if a situation is draining you, you also have the right to remove yourself from it. There are so many ways to say “no” to negativity with others, but you also have to know that negativity can be brought on by yourself, too. Negative self-talk is real and it’s common. I mean, afterall, you are your biggest critic. Speak gently to yourself and love who you are and where you are in life. If you aren’t fully happy, make a game plan to figure out how to get out of your situation + end up where you want to be. Happiness is the ultimate goal and negativity only holds you back.

Be intentional with your actions and schedule

Another great tip is to be intentional with your actions AND with your schedule. What do I mean by this? Doing too much weighs us down greatly, and it can be harmful to our mental health and physical. If you are taking on too much and skipping over your basic needs and self-care, it is doing nobody any good. You have to take care of yourself before anyone else – that should always be your priority. In addition to doing too much and forgetting about what you need or want, there’s also a possibility that you are doing too many things that you wish you weren’t doing. Stop going to an event just because it is polite. Do the things that you want to do – the things that truly bring you joy!

Prioritize sleep

I believe that sleep is the foundation of health – both mental health and physical health. Sleep is SO important because it’s when our body has the chance to recover. When we skip over sleep, or do not get enough, our health takes a big beating and we are not functioning at 100%. This weighs heavily on mental health especially. If you are struggling with your health, focus on sleep first! Here are some tips to help you get a good nights sleep if you need them.

Unplug from social media

Most of us know that Instagram, blogs, and Facebook (now TikTok too, I guess!) are only highlight reels of lives. However, how many times are you scrolling through your phone and you wish that you were on a trip, or wish that your home looked perfect, or wish that your job brought you more joy? This CAN be beneficial sometimes if it lights a fire under your butt to create change where it’s needed. However, a lot of the time, it just depresses people. It makes people sad, angry, depressed, and brings out a slew of other negative feelings. If you need a mental refresh, consider taking a break from social media! It definitely cannot hurt. The best way to do this is by filling your time with new activities, finding a hobby that you enjoy. Connecting with nature is a great way to get started whether it is going for walks or doing the gardening.
