Roker and Seaburn

With miles of coastline to choose from, Sunderland’s twin beaches at Roker and Seaburn have been family favourite sands for as long as we can remember. Weary parents can unwind and sit back with a picnic while kids can run off some excess energy – before settling down to build some impressive sandcastles! And with plenty of lifeguards on duty, all members of the family can finish off the day with a quick dip in the ocean… on the way back to the car, why not spend an hour strolling along the wide-open promenade, or paying a visit to the restored Roker Pier?

Saltburn

Easily reachable when travelling through the northeast by train, don’t miss the last beach spot on our list: Saltburn. Make your way down to Saltburn’s signature shingle and sandy beach via its unique water-powered cliff lift and take a glimpse at the only remaining pleasure pier on the whole northeast and Yorkshire coast – Saltburn’s infamous Victorian pier. Looking for a little more thrill? Saltburn Surf School also offers beach bums the chance to catch some great waves.

Sandhaven, Howdiemont Sands, Roker and Seaburn, and Saltburn; if you’re on the search for some beautiful coastal getaways and beaches that are a far cry from the often overcrowded and noisy sands in the south of the country, why not head up a little further north?
