Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

Here’s a quick breakdown of what the DA (domain authority) of a website actually is:

It’s a score between zero and one hundred (the highest score being the one you want) that attempts to predict how well your site will do on search engines. It was developed by Moz which is a website dedicated to SEO (search engine optimisation).

Domain authority is not to be confused with page rankings which is how Google marks your website. It is not the same as the ranking score used by Google (PageRank) which can actually influence your rankings. Moz attempt to simulate Google’s algorithm so that they can predict the performance of a particular website from Google’s perspective.

How to improve your blogs DA

Find your domain authority score here. If it’s low (below 20) don’t worry! There are things you can do to improve it.

There’s no immediate fix though – that’s the first thing you need to know. There are 40 points taken into consideration when a website’s domain authority is calculated and making the changes can take time.

Some of these include –

· The SEO performance of your website

· How many incoming links are leading to your site?

· The quality of the content

· Social media popularity

These are only 4 of 40 – but they do rank among the most important.

Here are 5 steps you can take to improve your DA:

Fix your on-page SEO – that means optimising content so that people can find what they’re looking for via your pages. You may have to pay someone to do this unless you’re a copywriter with a good grasp of how SEO works.

Ensure your website is mobile-friendly. Some aren’t. If your site isn’t mobile-friendly, then you’re going to lose thousands of visitors before they’ve even clicked ‘learn more’.

Increase your social signals – link your social media accounts with your website. That means LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Make sure you’re posting regularly to all of the above.

Improve your website’s speed – slow websites have a high bounce-rate. People just don’t have the time or the inclination to wait for pages to load. Make sure your site isn’t too image heavy as this can significantly slow it down.

Get your technical SEO sorted out – this means registering your website with Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster tools. There are other steps you can take – if you’re not technical, get some help from a reputable SEO agency.

Once you begin making these simple changes, your domain authority should improve quite quickly.
